Numerical simulation of fracture propagation in deep coal seam reservoirs

Abstract As an unconventional oil and gas resource, coalbed methane has become a key area of exploration worldwide, hydraulic fracturing is the critical technology for efficient stimulation methane. However, due to strong heterogeneity deep coal seam reservoirs development natural cleat fractures, fracture propagation path quite complex difficult capture. In this study, we propose simulation method using ABAQUS Software networks fluid–solid fully coupled two‐dimensional finite element model with global embedded cohesive zone (CZM). CZM established simulate fractures in heterogeneous combination rock mudstone. The accuracy verified by Blanton's experiment criterion. Finally, used influence angle, density, length ratio mudstone combination, construction displacement on behavior fractures. This study aims deepen understanding mechanism seams provides guidance design.
